Andrew Leicester collaborated with the North County Transit Center design team to create artist-designed bus canopies that were integrated into the overall design of the transit center.  The design of the canopies references the iconic forms of the Conestoga wagon, a type of covered wagon that has become symbolic of transportation in the 19th century western frontier.  The repeating pattern of canopies flowing out from the main building brings vibrancy and rhythm to the site, in addition to sheltering transit riders.
