Paint A Bus At The Ferguson Farmers Market

Help us add some color to the MetroBus fleet during an Art in Motion bus painting on August 10 at the Ferguson Farmers Market.

We’ll begin painting at 9 a.m. at Plaza 501, near the corner of Suburban and South Florissant Road. The event is free and open to the public.

The murals were designed by artist Crystal Stevens of Grow Create Inspire, and include images of fields, fruits and vegetables, to highlight the benefits of farming and the importance of ensuring everyone has access to farm-fresh produce.

The bus will join the Art in Motion Bus Fleet and operate throughout the St. Louis region for one year.

Turn a MetroBus Into A Work of Art on October 20

Help us add some color to the MetroBus fleet by painting a bus on Saturday, October 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pagedale Town Center, located at 6763 Page Avenue. The event is free and open to all ages.

“When it comes to promoting creativity and appreciation and love of art, you cannot find a better partner than Beyond Housing and the Normandy Schools Collaborative,” said David Allen, Director of Metro Arts in Transit. “The bus painting is a fun and memorable way to engage children and adults and build community.”

When completed, the Art in Motion bus will go into regular service and travel along a variety of MetroBus routes in St. Louis City and St. Louis County for one year.

The Arts in Transit Bus Painting is co-sponsored by Beyond Housing and the Normandy Schools Collaborative. Both organizations belong to the 24:1 Community, a name that represents the 24 municipalities in the Normandy Schools Collaborative with one vision for successful children, engaged families and strong communities. Additional event sponsors include Life Arts Inc., the Missouri Arts Council and the Regional Arts Commission.

“The 24:1 Arts Culturefest is a celebration of the artistic talent that exists in the 24:1 community,” said Debbie Chase, Chief Strategy Officer of Beyond Housing. “There will be live performances from Normandy school kids, soul singer Brian Owens and West African master drummer Caph Guei. There will be barbecue, hot dogs and many booths where local artists will display art work, including great books for kids.”

The design for the Art in Motion bus was created by local artist William Burton Jr., and includes images of community members, buildings, trees and text, highlighting a vibrant, colorful neighborhood.

Well-known artwork that’s currently featured in the Saint Louis Art Museum’s galleries will come alive — only this time on a 35-foot MetroBus.

All ages are invited to add their creativity and artistic talent to the Metro transit fleet this Sunday, August 21 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Saint Louis Art Museum in Forest Park. You’ll be able to transform a MetroBus into a masterpiece on wheels by painting several famous and renowned works of art (which are currently on display at the Museum) onto the bus.

When completed, the painted bus will go into regular service and travel along a variety of MetroBus routes in St. Louis City and St. Louis County for one year.

This Arts in Transit Bus Painting is sponsored by the Saint Louis Art Museum and is part of their Family Sunday: Art on the Go program.

The design for the Art Bus was created by local artists William Burton and Robert Ketchens. Burton and Ketchens are well known for their vibrant murals and artwork, and for their commitment to developing and promoting a thriving St Louis art scene.

“This is a great activity for the kids who visit the Museum,” said Sherri Williams, Associate Educator for Youth and Family Learning. “They have the opportunity to meet the artists, foster their creativity, and then see the results of their work as the bus travels around the region.”
